Well-Being

Well-Being has been something that has really come to my awareness since I started Mason in 2014. To me, part of being able to be effective in anything has to be based on caring for my own well-being. However, I believe that after I have taken care of myself, focusing on other’s well-being is part of being a leader. The LEAD Office has always focused on well-being, I think the atmosphere of the office itself tends to promote it. Even on my first day ever entering the office (interview day), I noticed how homey the office felt, and my nervousness for the interview was lowered because of the atmosphere. Every Leadership Consultant meeting usually has begun with “give me a positive and a negative.” I thought that this was always a great way to start our meeting because it allowed me to see where everyone else was at and had me reflecting on how I was doing. I believe that this practice by my office has influenced how I lead.

Our office is effective and gets work done, but it is also a place I look forward to coming to because of the people in it. I know that my experience here will help me continue to be able to create this atmosphere that focuses on well-being because I have learned from all the professional stuff in the LEAD Office. I knew coming into my junior year with a new job and multiple classes including graduate level classes, that I could easily be overwhelmed. However, this year I feel I have been able to excel and grow because of the focus on well-being in the LEAD Office and the George Mason community.Well being
